History
The clinic was bought from an existing veterinarian by Dr. Colleen and Dr. Volker Metz in 1986. The premises has an adjoining house which mean a veterinarian is on site 24/7. In recent years their eldest daughter, Dr. Ingrid Metz has taken over the clinic and family business. With the support of our loyal client base, the clinic has grown into a successful, fully equipped, multi-vet practice.
About us
We specialise in a variety of companion animals such as dogs, cats, birds and exotics. Our clinic is equipped with state of the art diagnostic tools, including digital radiography, ultrasound and in-house blood testing.
Our team is dedicated to assist you with any pet related needs and questions.
Our team
Our team at Fichardtpark Animal Clinic consists of three very talented veterinarians, a caring veterinary nurse, two outstanding receptionists and two amazing kennel hands.
Depending on the time you enter our clinic you'll be greeted by one of our friendly receptionists either Shandre, who joined our team in 2018, and usually works in the mornings or Karen, who has been with the clinic for 19 years, and takes over in the afternoon.

Dr. Ingrid Metz (BSc BVSc Hons)
Dr. Ingrid followed in her parents footsteps by obtaining her BVsc at Onderstepoort in 2015 and completing her honours in 2018, focusing on small animal surgery (soft tissue and orthopedics), advanced imaging, ophthalmology and clinical pathology. She is the fierce leader of our team with a skills set to match.
Dr. Adriaan Coetzee (BVSc)
Dr. Adriaan joined our team in 2020 after graduating from Onderstepoort in 2018 and completing his CCS year in 2019. He has interests in both surgery and medicine. He's a young, passionate veterinarian with a eagerness to learn and caring heart to help his patients.
Dr. Colleen Gilfillan (BVsc)
The backbone of our clinic. With over 35 years of experience and a pair of skilled hands, there is almost nothing she can't do. She is our clinic mom, who always has an ear to lend, whilst being able to complete a record number of sterilizations.
Sr. Clara Delport (DVN)
Sr. Clara completed her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in 2018 and moved back home to join our team. The heart of our team. She is compassionate and nurturing, ensuring your pet receives the love and care they need during their stay with us.
Community
Our clinic and staff are involved in various community projects to help our furry friends in need and educate the public on animal welfare.
Our main focus is with assisting the Bloemfontein SPCA regarding small animal health care and insuring a voice to the voiceless.
